The activities of the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Animal Product Quality involve fundamental research related to the feeding of ruminants and monogastric farm animals. A second aim is the optimisation of sensory quality as well as health value of animal foods. Both areas are integrated to a considerable extent. Animal nutrition research pursues increased knowledge of the physiology of digestion and of animal metabolism for use in the optimisation of production processes as well as of product quality. Projects related to animal product quality attempt to gain insight in the various factors determining this important characteristic.
